Japanese Dramas

Okay, let's just say that I have a serious problem right now... I'm addicted to Japanese dramas. It's true! I just can't stop watching them :-( There's a drama every night on weekdays. The dramas here are quite different from the dramas that we usually see in Malaysia. First and foremost, they show new dramas every season (that is winter, spring, summer and autumn) and each drama is only on once a week.

Right. Back to my problem. Everyday, whenever the time comes (that is every night at 9 pm), I'll head to the TV room and stare expectantly at the idiot box. That means I waste 1 hour every day in front of the TV! I've become its slave! Huuu... To those who are thinking that I'll just need to limit my time watching television, let me tell you all this: Words are easier said than done, k? Let's just face this... I have a weak will power and I ain't afraid to admit it.

But seriously, Japanese dramas are soooo..... What's the word I'm looking for here.......... Yes. It's refreshing. I mean like I've been watching TVB dramas like forever (and in recent years, Korean dramas) but I have finally found a type of drama that suits my taste.

However, the same can not be said of Japanese movies. They are just too... I don't know how to phrase this but, I think I'll just stick to Hollywood movies (Yes, I think that British movies are also a big no no just like Japanese movies, but Notting Hill turned out fine. And that's most probably because they had Julia Roberts in it=>).

hey i randomly came upon your blog and i was wondering which dramas and movies you recommend. i recently found crunchyroll.com, which my friend recommended for such asian goodies. however, i don't know which ones are good? i've only seen a few of the movies/dramas on that site. anyways, good luck feeding your new addiction. How about Hollywood films in Japan, say the Pirates of the Carribbean... are they dubbed in Japanese?

They have this Japanese comedy in C4 (a television channel here) dubbed in American English which is terrible. I prefer orginality.

Say, are you still addicted to anime ?

the most recent dramas here are 'bambino'バンビーノ and 'operation love'プロポース大作戦。All of them are quite good but I doubt it's available in DVD right now as it's still showing here. Personally, I like 'Pride' and 'Meteor Garden 1&2' (the Japanese version).
For your information, all American movies shown in the cinema here are dubbed in Japanese. Imagine watching Spiderman3 with Tobey McGuire speaking in Japanese. I find it... well, weird. There are movies in their original language too, but that is very rare.
I still like anime but not as much as I did last time. You see, good animes are hard to come by and the timing is not good. I'm usually free from 8 till 10 and the only TV programs available are documentaries, variety shows and dramas, and of course I prefer watching dramas and thus, contributing to my addiction =>
