Drinking Water???
Water, the essence of life. However, I just realized how valuable water is after I came here. In Malaysia, the importance of water is put to shame by the way we waste our water, drinkable or non-drinkable. The scenario of the water tap running while people are chatting away and not even bothering to turn off the tap is, sad to say, a norm among my fellow Malaysians. May I point out to all of you who waste water so (what's the word...) rashly that many people around the world can't even enjoy the luxury of drinking clean water?
Anyway, back to why it is that I came to realize the importance of water after I came to Japan, and not before then. Well, the answer is really quite simple... The tap water is drinkable. Yes, you've heard me right. You can drink the water straight from the tap using even your hands if you are too lazy to get hold of a glass (of which I do on a regular basis. Hehe). In Malaysia, the water must be (1) filtered (2) boiled (3) filtered again optional before (4) it can finally reached your parched throat. What a bother!
Just imagine what would happen if I go back to Malaysia and were to forget that by drinking the water from the tap without performing the aforementioned 4 crucial steps. I would most probably contract cholera, or some life-threatening viruses that lurk in tap water and spend the rest of my summer holidays bed-ridden or suffering from acute diarrhea 24/7...
Therefore, for the benefit of all you people out there, I've put together this little play:
Title: To Drink Or Not To Drink
Director: Rachel FHA
Script: Rachel FHA & Stephanie HBT
Cast: Rachel FHA as Ah Fong(Fong)
Stephanie HBT as San Hii Le(SHL)
Location: Stephanie's house, Vista Komanwel B, Bukit Jalil, MY
Plot:
Ah Fong reaches for the water tap in the bathroom and turns on the tap. Her hands reaches down towards the water and......
SHL: Fong! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fong: What? (looks at SHL with her trademark blank look)
SHL: Don't do it! Don't!!!!
Fong: Don't do what? Huh? (or in Japanese style "e~??")
SHL: Don't drink the water! You'll get cholera!
Fong: (throws SHL a dirty look) I just wanna brush my teeth what...

yep, listen to the guy who drank polluted water. maybe the water damaged his brain, thus making him so unobservant. lol, jk perl!! well, i have to admit, the quality of the water in kl is very low. the water is perpetually yellowish! remember the time when the water smells like shit and the everyone could not get non-smelly water? that time was the 'tops' man! LOL;-P
